Based on each client's unique situation, Shawn utilizes a client-centered, strength based, counselling style. Shawn was born legally blind, and understands firsthand how having a disability can affect an individual's sense of self. In 2008, she founded a non-profit called Blind Beginnings whose purpose is to support BC families raising children and youth who are blind or partially sighted to reach their full potential. At Blind Beginnings, Shawn provides individual counselling and psychoeducational workshops to children and youth with vision loss, and individual counselling and grief and loss support groups to their parents. Shawn is a retired Paralympic athlete, a wife and a mother. She provides Disability Awareness presentations to schools, community organizations, and businesses, and is the host of a weekly podcast called Limitless. Shawn received her Masters of Education (Counselling) from the University of British Columbia and is a current member of the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors.
